Prior to 1915, Seneca Falls was known as the “fire engine capital of the world,” because of the many fire engine and pump-making companies located on The Flats in Seneca Falls.

The Seneca County Industrial Development Agency (SENIDA) is a public benefit corporation created in 1973 by an act of the New York State Legislature. The agency's primary purpose is to promote private sector commercial and industrial development, and advance the job opportunities and economic welfare of the people of Seneca County. In the past 25 years, the SENIDA has helped bring more than 5,000 new jobs to Seneca County. SENIDA has helped to recruit and expand more than 100 companies.
A nine-member board of directors governs the SENIDA. The Board is appointed by the Seneca County Board of Supervisors. Professional staff manages the day-to-day operations of the SENIDA.
